OTT : Semi porn content being served on OTT, the effect of the Central Government’s warning in the first three months
Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur has once again made it clear that the use of obscenity and abusive language in the entertainment content being served on OTT in India will not be tolerated. Like television channels, OTT and online content have been working under the self-censorship policy of their operators in the country till now, but due to continuous porn or semi-porn content being served on OTT platforms, even those viewers who are not comfortable with such content are upset. Feel cheated even after paying regular fee. In the first three months of this, at least five web series have been released on OTT, which do not even fit in the A category of censors. This series of R category popular in America is not considered correct according to Indian sensibilities.
Rana Naidu (Netflix) Venkatesh Daggubati and Rana Daggubati’s web series ‘Rana Naidu’ is streamed on Netflix. This series is said to be a cheap copy of ‘Sacred Games’, which was previously streamed on Netflix. Those who have seen both the series can understand the meaning of this. In order to get cheap popularity, ‘Rana Naidu’ is full of street scenes and obscene scenes. This series is a remake of the American series ‘Ray Donovan’. This series, full of dirty language, bold content and street language, is also being told by the people of adult category as very ridiculous. The directors of this series are Suparn Verma and Karan Anshuman. In this series, apart from Venkatesh Daggubati and Rana Daggubati, Surveen Chawla, Abhishek Banerjee, Gaurav Chopra, Ashish Vidyarti and Rajesh Jais etc. are in the lead roles.
College Romance (Sony LIV) Before Rana Naidu, the case of TVF’s web series ‘College Romance’ even reached the Delhi High Court. In the case filed against this web series, Delhi High Court judge Swaran Kanta herself had to watch the episodes of this series by wearing earphones. Later, the judge rejected the plea to quash the FIR lodged against the makers of the series. The court’s observation was that airing such entertainment content on OTT in the name of popular language is not at all right. The series stars Apoorva Arora, Gagan Arora, Jhanvi Rawat, Manjot Singh, Keshav Sadhna, Nupur Nagpal and Shreya Mehta in lead roles. The producer of the show is Arunabh Kumar and the director is Parijat Joshi.
Pop Who (Disney Plus Hotstar)
‘Pop Who’ recently streamed on Disney Plus Hotstar. To say this is a comedy series. But in this series very bad scenes have been written targeting women. Kunal Khemu and Nupur Sanon were very excited about this series before its release. He believed that after only violence and obscene content on the platform, a clean series is coming in the form of comedy, but after watching this series, it is very disappointing, especially after seeing the scenes written on women. Apart from Kunal Khemu and Nupur Sanon, the series also stars late Satish Kaushik, Johnny Lever, Rajpal Yadav, Chunky Pandey and others in key roles. The series is directed by Farhad Samji whose directorial venture ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan’ is going to release on Eid.
Happy Family Conditions Apply (Amazon Prime Video) The story of ‘Happy Family Conditions Apply’ revolves around a Gujarati family. The show’s directors Aatish Kapadia and JD Majithia have produced several serials from Gujarati background, in which ‘Khichdi’ has been their most popular show. But after coming on OTT, he too has deviated from his original purpose. In ‘Happy Family Conditions Apply’, unnecessary slang words have been tried to make them colloquial words by including them in family scenes. The series stars Raj Babbar, Ratna Pathak Shah, Atul Kulkarni, Ayesha Julka, Meenal Sahu, Atul Kumar in lead roles.
Taj – Divided by Blood (G5) If seen, ‘Taj – Divided by Blood’ is the story of Emperor Akbar of the Mughalia Sultanate, who is faced with the problem of choosing whom among his three sons to be the emperor of the Sultanate. The eldest son Salim is always indulging in debauchery and the youngest son Daniyal is homosexual.
